What it costs
A labiaplasty costs €3,000 to €7,000, from about €3,300 under a local anaesthetic in a day clinic. Our price guide shows what's included and what moves the price.
Consultations and the trip home from Donegal
Plan on about three trips: the consultation (some clinics start with a video call), the day of the operation, usually home the same day, and a check-up afterwards. From Letterkenny to Dublin that's about 19.9 hours in the car altogether, there and back, less if the first consultation is by video.
Don't plan to drive yourself home after the operation. Sitting is sore for the first few days, so travel as a passenger, with a soft cushion and stops.
That's a long trip on the day of an operation. Some people book a night near the clinic. On any trip of three hours or more after surgery, the HSE advises loose clothes, getting out to walk and calf exercises, because sitting still raises the risk of a clot.
Choosing a surgeon
Every doctor practising in Ireland must be registered with the Medical Council, and only a doctor with specialist registration can practise independently as a specialist. For labiaplasty, look for a surgeon on the Specialist Division in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, or a gynaecologist on the Specialist Division in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, using the Medical Council's online register.
Ask which technique they'd use, local or general anaesthetic, how many check-ups are in the price, and who you ring at night if something worries you.
After a baby
1,610 babies were born to mothers living in County Donegal in 2024. Birth is one reason women ask about labiaplasty. Anything that hurts or healed badly after a birth is medical care first: see your GP or maternity hospital. Read labiaplasty after childbirth.
Is it the right time?
Labiaplasty isn't for you yet if:
- you're under 18
- you're pregnant, had a baby in the last six months or are still breastfeeding
- you have itching, soreness or a skin change that hasn't been checked by a GP
- you're being pushed into it by a partner or anyone else
- you expect it to fix how you feel about your body on its own
Questions from Donegal
Do I have to go to Dublin for labiaplasty from Donegal?
From Letterkenny, the nearest places where plastic surgeons see private patients are Dublin (about 3 hours 20 minutes by car) and Galway (3 hours 35 minutes). Dublin itself is about 3 hours 20 minutes by car.
How many trips will I make from Letterkenny?
Usually about three: the consultation, the operation as a day case, and a check-up afterwards. Some clinics do the first consultation by video.
Is labiaplasty cheaper in Donegal?
Not really. Prices around the country sit in the same range, €3,000 to €7,000. The anaesthetic, the technique and the surgeon move the price more than the county.
Will anyone know why I'm going?
Only if you tell them. We never mention the procedure in texts, and we ask the clinic not to name it in a text or a voicemail either.
Who will contact me if I enquire from Donegal?
One clinic, not five. We pass your enquiry to one Irish clinic and they contact you to arrange a private consultation. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
